[rec.video] Need Interactive Videodisc Configuration Advice

mcheyser@cadnetix.COM (10/03/89)

I just posted the following article to comp.ivideodisc, but
thought I might find some others in rec.video and
comp.sys.mac.hypercard whose interests overlap into this
area.

***************************************************************

I'm a new subscriber to this newsgroup, but understand the basic
functionality of interactive videodisc reasonably well. I'm
fascinated by the potential of this technology and would like to
learn as much as I can about it.

I would appreciate advice on two topics: 1) what are some good
sources of information on the technology and its applications?,
and 2) what would be the best configuration for an end-user system,
allowing for possible expansion to an application development
system in the future?

I realize the second topic is a matter of opinion, and harks back
to the old Mac vs. PC argument that has been hashed many times in
other settings. Nevertheless, any well-considered input on this
topic would help me a lot. Also, if you recommend a particular
videodisk player, please let me know what features it has that I
would find useful (such as needing an RS-232 connector on the
player to properly hook it to a computer).

One last thing. I'm trying to find others in the Denver/Boulder
area who are interested in mulimedia applications, but I'm having
trouble plugging into the local network. If any of you local
yokels are out there, let me here from you!

Thanks much.
