I plan on purchasing a new VCR within the next couple of months. Along with wanting a really boffo home VCR, I'd like something on which I can do frame step animation. I've seen several VCR's in my price range (like the JVC 5000 and 10000 models) that offere "edit list" and "edit sync" capabilities. Is there a special "frame step record" feature that I should be looking for, or can I use the "edit sync" feature and drive it from my Amiga? It might be obvious from the above question that I'm not too hot on video technology. :-) Where's a good place to learn other than reading magazines? Are the various "guide to video and the amiga" books worth buying? How about a good video magazine? I'm interested in graduate-student level video editing and animation more from the technical viewpoint than the artistic viewpoint (at this time). (I have friends who use the cheesy school equipment, but they only know how to push the buttons to edit tape together.) In all, I plan on spending a hefty chunk of capital (for me, at least :-). I'm currently considering the JVC 5000 and 10000 lines mostly because I've heard such good things about them. I'm not adverse to 8mm, however, as I'll buy a camera to match whatever type of deck I purchase. A primary concern, then, is being able to frame-step out animation from an Amiga 2000 or 3000. (Extra features like built in TBC are nice, of course. :-) Any suggestions/comments/flames? Email, and I'll post a summary if anyone wants. I'd also be interested in a mailing list that discusses these issues. -- J.
