Utzoo has consistently had no significant news backlogs for a week now. (And the only major backlog it's had recently was the one that resulted from mnetor's downtime.) To understand how remarkable this is, you have to realize that in the last year or two, utzoo has almost always had a significant news-transmission backlog for somebody. As to why this happy state of affairs now prevails, it's probably several factors working together. Utzoo is a Sun these days, which means that news-batching runs are faster; this generally means that we do a better job of keeping outbound uucp queues stoked full. We now have two operational Trailblazers, which helps for those sites that can talk to them. (The Sun also is probably doing better at running the TBs than the poor old 11 did.) And part of it is just luck: we haven't had any recent big persistent problems at any of the sites we feed. Of course, I'm about to be away for a week, which will give plenty of opportunity for trouble to develop... :-) -- Intel CPUs are not defective, | Henry Spencer at U of Toronto Zoology they just act that way. | uunet!attcan!utzoo!henry henry@zoo.toronto.edu
