[tor.news] Contact

root@nebulus (Dennis S. Breckenridge) (12/08/89)

I have tried to contact (no pun intended) someone at Contact
Public Access Unix to ask them to fix the postings from thier
machine. I have had no luck. They are posting with a blank
distribution so I cannot trap incoming messages from their
private newsgroups. I have banged out camelot and general
here on all of my downstream sites but it appears that news
is leaking off nebulus and corrupting the net. Contact, if
you are listening, Please stop feeding me general and camelot.
I have sent several mail messages to your machine but I have
not recieved a single reply. Please fix your news software
to add the default group of local ot keep local issues on
your machine. I have noticed that your subject field is
usually blank as well. It appears that the news software
your are using is broken in several places.
Thank you

After a few tests, I am reasonably sure that the news propagation problems at
Contact are fixed. It has become clear that alpha C News (our version at
least) requires that !'d out groups be before the "/" in the
<newsgroups>/<distributions> field in the sys file, and that !'d out
distributions come after it. Apologies to all (particularly Dennis) who were
inconvenienced/annoyed by the leakage of news from Contact.
