[rec.arts.startrek] An official ftp site has arrived

brown@vidiot.UUCP (Vidiot) (10/29/90)

Now you all can stop asking for this information :-)

FTP

The program guide is available via anonymous ftp, already patched. If you
are having trouble, or need another copy (for whatever reason), you can
get it by entering the following commands:

ftp mammoth.unr.edu or 134.197.40.241
anonymous or anon or ftp
<use your name for the password>
cd /pub/guides/startrek
binary
get sttngsrc.tar.Z or whatever filename

The following are the names of files that can be obtained:

total 2856
drwxrwxr-x 2 512 Oct 19 13:25 ./
drwxrwxrwx 12 1024 Oct 28 18:04 ../
-rw-rw-r-- 1 4981 Oct 19 09:56 README
-rw-rw-r-- 1 421423 Mar 6 1990 ncc1701d.tar.Z
-rw-rw-r-- 1 777293 Oct 7 13:49 sttng.nc.tar.Z
-rw-rw-r-- 1 10491 Oct 19 10:15 sttng.spine.ps.Z
-rw-rw-r-- 1 780646 Oct 7 14:06 sttng.tr.tar.Z
-rw-rw-r-- 1 244059 Oct 6 15:45 sttng400nc.t.Z
-rw-rw-r-- 1 24415 Oct 5 22:37 sttng400s01.Z
-rw-rw-r-- 1 21495 Oct 5 22:37 sttng400s02.Z
-rw-rw-r-- 1 243127 Oct 6 19:23 sttng400tr.t.Z
-rw-rw-r-- 1 293497 Oct 5 22:53 sttngsrc.tar.Z
-rw-rw-r-- 1 33768 Oct 19 12:24 warbird.ps.Z

Some people have asked what to do with the files once they ftp the files
because they've never used tar, so here's what they should do:

	uncompress sttngsrc.tar.Z
	tar xvf sttngsrc.tar

For the PostScript files, use lpr or lp, or whatever your system has as the
print spooler.

If transferring the files to a SysV UNIX system, be careful to change the name
of the longer file names.

Other files may be available. Check with mikew@mammoth.unr.edu for details.
Always give Mike a couple of days to get the latest files ready after I release
them.

ANONUUCP

The program guide files are also available via anonymous uucp from my system.
Here are the details:

	Phone: 608-274-9275
	Baud: 19200/2400/1200
	Login: anonuucp
Password:	none (it will not be asked)

The main directory is ~nuucp/guides. In there you will find a file called
dir.list. Get it, as it will list all of the latest files that are in the
guides' directory. After you get it, study it and then request the files
that you need. This area contains more than ST:TNG guides and lists. The
area will be under constant changes, as new lists and updates will be added.
