Digital announced yesterday its plans to support Berkeley Unix 4.2 as a standard operating system for the VAX computer family. Details later.

DEC actually announced that it will be selling and supporting a native VAX UNIX product, based on Berkeley's 4.1BSD, initially. We hope to make some of the features from System III/IV available in our release that people seem to feel that they like/need (like the neat screen editor from System IV called vi!). We hope to move to the 4.2 distribution after it has stabilized. Note that these will be binary licenses and that support will probably come in the form that it currently does for other DEC supported operating systems (local office support personnel, telephone support, backed by a corporate support group, etc). aps.
