[rec.audio] Adding a digital output to existing equipment

Can anyone point me to a reference or share any thoughts on what is
involved in adding a digital output (suitable for plugging into a DAT
machine) to a Yamaha CD-X1 cd player and/or a Sony PCM-F1 or PCM-501ES
pcm adapter.
