In sun-spots v7n5, Jan Peterson responds to Scott Dickson (v6n257) about the v4.0 peculiarity in which a csh started by rlogin treats all characters typed as ctrl-D. We have also seen this problem when rlogin was attempted from a diskful 4/110 to a diskless 3/50 served off a 4/280. We had to reboot the 3/50. We saw exactly what JP predicts: "(...) If you do a w(1), it will list the ttys used and the jobs running on them. Look for a job name of "-". This is a tty that doesn't really have a job attached. If you use the cleartty program (available somewhere, I forget where I got it) to clear that tty (it's probably the highest numbered pseudo tty), your problem will go away." We don't have cleartty and have no idea where to begin to ask to get it. I have reported this problem to Sun, but in the meantime, while we wait (and wait) for 4.x to fix everything, does anyone know where we can get cleartty? voice: 408-429-2630 fax: 408-429-2730 email: root@helios.ucsc.edu root@portal.bitnet
