@relay.cs.net:pml%pmlsun@USL.CSNET (Patrick M. Landry) (12/16/88)
I am having a weird problem on my sun net. all of the clients connected to a particular server forward their print requests to this server. When a client attempts to queue a job over the network the error message ipr: Cannot Connect to Spooler or ipr: Who are you? The command line used is ditroff -Timp -me file | dimp -Pip dimp takes the ditroff output, converts it to impress and hands it to ipr. ipr is a front-end program provided by imagen to send files to imagen printers. (Those of you with imagens are no doubt familiar with this.) Some strange things. 1) It seems as though the problem is somehow related to the size of the file being printed. 2) If I do the steps mentioned above, everything seems fine. 3) I have 4 servers all set up relatively the same and only one is exhibiting this behavior. Any help would be truly appreciated. I am at a loss -- patrick pml@usl.usl.edu ...!uunet!dalsqnt!usl!pml [[ This sounds very much like either a problem with Imagen's software or a problem with your configuration of Imagen's software (such as the /etc/printcap file). Either way, Imagen should be able to help you out. They used to be pretty good about helping customers. Has QMS changed that? Have you tried contacting Imagen's customer support? It really seems like someone needs to look at your setup before they would be able to help much. --wnl ]]
