RTS/CTS flow control is nice when it's available, but it's not on a DZ-11. The five pins that the DZ can read or write are 1 - Receive data, 2 - Transmit data, 3 - Data Terminal Ready, 4 - Ring register, and 5 - Carrier Register. We ran into this problem when installing a Sytek Local-Net. Our users have ^S as their search character in Montgomery's EMACS, and ^S is the one command that cannot be remapped to others without a lot of modification to EMACS. To solve the problem, the CTS line from the Sytek port was wired to the Ring Indicator line on the DZ which was unused in the current driver. This still only allows the terminal to flow control the computer and not the other way. The software required to use this cable change wasn't simple (Ever try programming a KMC?), but it made the user's happy.
