We have had several error messages of the following type on 2 systems: (1) Sun 4/280 Sun 3.2 SPARC 32 meg (4 8-meg boards) mem3: soft ecc addr 469710 syn 75<S16,S8,S4,S1,SX> 48 U1848 mem3: soft ecc addr 469710 syn 75<S16,S8,S4,S1,SX> 48 U1848 (2) Sun 3/280 Sun 3.5 24 meg (3 8-meg boards) mem1: soft ecc addr 5291f8 syn 19<S4,S2,SX> 26 U2126 mem2: soft ecc addr 76ad58 syn b<S2,S0,SX> 30 U2130 mem2: soft ecc addr 72c100 syn 23<S8,S0,SX> 07 U1907 I would like to know the following: What board is the error happening on - is 'mem0' the first 8 meg board? (and mem1 the second, etc) (the Sun FE I talked to "thought" so - does anybody know for sure?) How many errors should occur before I should start worrying about replacing the board? (Sun FE says 'several hundred' - I don't think it is right to put up with errors when you have a hardware service contract) How do you read the error message? Can you tell where the error occurred down to which chip it is? Thanks in advance... -e Eric Pearce Boston University Information Technology 111 Cummington Street Boston, MA 02215 617-353-2780 (voice) 617-353-6260 (fax) eap@bu-it.bu.edu -- UUCP !harvard!bu-cs!bu-it!eap ARPANET eap@bu-it.bu.edu CSNET eap%bu-it@bu-cs JNET jnet%"ep@buenga" BITNET iteap@buacca or ep@buenga
