We have a set up here (mathematics, UCLA) with a departmental ethernet consisting of 4 Sun-3 file servers and some 20 Sun-3 workstations, with each file server serving 6 diskless workstations. Recently, our file servers printed the following error messages on the console randomly: ie0: ethernet jammed or ie0: WARNING: if_snd full nd: output error 55 It happened to all file servers, although some more frequent than other. At worst, one server can complaint 5 or 6 times per day. It does not seem to affect the system operations (yet). Sun people suggest that maybe our ethernet is really crowded or maybe there is a faulty transceiver somewhere on the net saturating the net occasionally. We are puzzled since the error messages surfaced only recently and we did not add too many workstation recently. We will appreciate if someone out there has similar problems or can point out how to track this type of problems. Thanks much and happy holidays. paul paul@math.ucla.edu
