[comp.sys.sun] SunOS 4.0 & SCSI performance?

jwr@rutgers.edu (Jim Reid) (01/12/89)

I have a question concerning SunOS 4.0.

Here is the current scenario:

We are running SunOS 3.5 on a Sun 3/160. We are using the Sun 3 SCSI Host
Adaptor Board. If there is a version number associated with the board I
do not know it. I will try to find one. The software that we are using
with the board is sc.c (SCCS version 1.6). Using Sun SCSI, We have
successfully integrated a Hitachi Optical Disk Drive with the system.

The problem is this:

We can only read 63K blocks at a time, and are unhappy with this
performance. We have been told this is not a problem with SCSI, but in
fact a problem with the Sun 3.

My question is:

If this is true, does SunOS 4.0 solve this problem?

Please reply or followup if you have any information or questions
pertaining to this problem.

Thanks in advance.
