We are an ISV with products that currently run under DOS and because of increasing sofphistication of the engineering code involved, are making the strategic move to Unix (I don't even want to THINK about OS/2). Anyway, we want to purchase a development platform that gives us both development environments. Options are a 386i or a '386 AT bus machine running SCO Xenix with VP/ix. Our product (and another product we distribute and support -- Ansys) requires a block security device on the printer port. Does anybody with experience with either the 386i or VP/ix know whether the printer port works exactly as expected if the machine weren't being shared between two OS's? Anybody use a product in either of these two environments which required a security device and have it work?
