> "If anyone has connected up a LaserWriter (IINT) to a 386i I'd > greatly appreciate hearing from you. I have a LaserWriter II NT hooked to my 386i. I used the cable that came with Sun's LaserWriter Interface kit (I think this is basically a null modem cable) and a gender changer I made out of a piece of ribbon cable and two connectors purchased at Radio Shack. The printer host machine is called cobra. cobra is also the YP server. cobra's /etc/ypprintcap file contains the following entry: lp|lw|postscript|PostScript|cobra-ttya:\ :rm=cobra:rp=lw:sd=/var/spool/lw:lf=/var/spool/lw/error-log: and the printcap file on cobra contains: lp|lw|postscript|PostScript|cobra-ttya:\ :lp=/dev/ttya:\ :sd=/var/spool/lw:lf=/var/spool/lw/error-log:\ :br=#9600:rw:fc#0000374:fs#0000003:xc#0:xs#0040040:mx#0:sf:sb:\ :if=/export/applic/ts/sun386/lib/psif:\ :of=/export/applic/ts/sun386/lib/psof:\ :gf=/export/applic/ts/sun386/lib/psgf:\ :nf=/export/applic/ts/sun386/lib/psnf:\ :tf=/export/applic/ts/sun386/lib/pstf:\ :rf=/export/applic/ts/sun386/lib/psrf:\ :vf=/export/applic/ts/sun386/lib/psvf:\ :cf=/export/applic/ts/sun386/lib/pscf:\ :df=/export/applic/ts/sun386/lib/psdf: Note that cobra uses the local printcap while the YP clients use the ypprintcap. This is done because cobra is running Transcript 2.1 software. Setting things up this way allows non-386 clients to make use of the Transcript filters. - Glenn Roberts, The MITRE Corp., McLean VA (703) 883-6820 gfr@cobra.mitre.org
