[comp.sys.sun] Clients won't talk to server Tape drive under 4.0

csrobe@icase.edu (Charles S. [Chip] Roberson) (01/24/89)

We're trying to install SunOS 4.0 on our 3/180-3/50 network. The clients
won't read from the tape drive when we attempt the remote installation on
dataless or standalone clients. The errors messages are
stty: Operation not supported on socket
(repeated three times) followed by a request to mount the installation
tape. We also cannot perform rcp's from one machine to another.

Another problem we are experiencing is that the getty process appears to
drop or abort the login after the login prompt on serial lines.

We've been beating our heads against the wall for a week or more and we'd
appreciate any suggestions.
