The monitor is irrelevant - if it is a color monitor, it can display 24 bit color. Sun does sell a 24 bit frame buffer, the CG8. As of several months ago, it was only available with the 4/110-TC, but it may become a separate product at some point. I don't know if it would be supported in a 3/260, but I don't see why not. There is a company called Tech Source in Florida that sells what looks like a very nice frame buffer with up to 32 bit planes. See the latest Sun Technology magazine for their address. All monitors are "true color", it's the frame buffer you are interested. Most Sun frame buffers are 8 bits deep, but Sun announced a 24 bit true color version of the Sun-4/110, called the 4/110TC, at SIGGRAPH last year. It looked pretty good!
