I have noticed that occasionally preen when run under SunOS 4.0 will exit in such a way that it causes a reboot and re-check when it is not necessary. I am using a version of preen which uses Sun's new fstab reading routines. Also, can anyone tell me why the /etc/rc.boot distributed by sun tests for a return code of 0 or 2 instead of just 0 in the case statement after checking the disks? Fsck is not documented as returning a 2. What does it mean? Has anyone modifed the SunOS fsck with any of the performance changes discussed at USENIX or distributed earlier?
