I am having a problem with system III nroff. This version takes advantage of the capability of certain terminals to underline automatically, which usually looks nicer than using underlines, and is much quicker. Unfortunately, it's implemented the same way as with boldface -- that is, nroff attempts to be clever, and doesn't emit the "stop underline" character sequence until it prints a non-blank character, thus reducing the size of the output a little. The trouble is, while emboldened white space looks pretty much the same as unemboldened, underlined white space doesn't... for instance, when the page offset isn't 0 (i.e., always) you get an underlined margin. In general you get lots of extra underlines. Anybody out there got the fixes? Thanks in advance, -- Steve Wartik decvax!trw-unix!trwspp!wartik
