These are the compression/decompression schemes used for FAX facsimile transmission. "The Group 3 1-dimensional scheme encodes an input image run length using a modified Huffman code to produce the transmittable facsimile. The Group 4 2-dimensional encoding is an extension to the Group 3 1-dimensional algorithm (mentioned above) and is known as the modified READ (relative element address designate) code.
