We have a Sun-4/110 here running SunOS 4.0 Sunview. The owner of the system recently rebuilt his /usr partition and after doing so started receiving some strange errors in sunview. Sunview works for the most part, but windows sometime stop responding to mouse functions. Ie, you go to close the window by clicking on the title bar and nothing happens. A little while later in the console window messages appear: RPC: Remote System error - connection timed out Selection Library Internal error Couldnt get client handle for current holder That window is useless from that point on and Sunview has to be restarted to fix it. The problem may be triggered when text is put into the cut buffer from one window and attempted to be used by another. Does anyone have any insights into this problem? It would seem as if some system program and/or file is not setup properly. Dana Roode Roode@orion.cf.uci.edu Bitnet: DFRoode@UCI UC Irvine Computing Facility

It sounds strange but you will get the following messgage on your console within sunview: RPC: Remote System error - connection timed out Selection Library Internal error Couldnt get client handle for current holder if you do not have configured your ethernet interface. To get rid of this problem : set up a name and an internet adress for your machine in /etc/hosts i.e. 192.9.200.1 myhost loghost be shure that wou have the lines: ifconfig ec0 $hostname -trailers up ifconfig ie0 $hostname -trailers up ifconfig le0 $hostname -trailers up in the file /etc/rc.boot (hostname has to be set correctly to i.e. myhost in /etc/rc.boot as well) J.
