I still have the paper copies, and would like to somehow >tell diag about these bad spots.... On a regular basis (at least when ever we get a new drive) we get Fujitsu Eagles (2351) from our stock room. These drives are configured for a VAX system. I just change the drive to the correct number of blocks by changing the jumpers on the configuration board in the drive. To place the manufacturers defect list on the drive, boot 'stand/diag' and answer the questions appropriatly. At the normal diag prompt type 'sformat'. This will give you a list of options. One of the options is to enter a new defect list. When you choose this option, it will prompt you for cylinder, head, offset, and length just as it is listed on the hard copy defect list. Enter the decimal values. After you have completed the entry of the defect list, return to the sformat menu. Before you actually get back to the sformat menu, all the data you entered will be displayed on your screen. This is a time to review the list for correctness. If there are any errors, you can change, delete, or add entries from the sformat menu. When you are satisfied that the defect list has been entered correctly, choose format. Answer yes to all the questions. The drive will format, after the format the defect list will be written to disk, then verify passes will take place. Sformat will take care of all mapping of defects.
