We have a diskful 3/60 running OS 3.5 serving a diskless 3/75 running OS 3.5. We need to get a third diskless Sun (currently a 3/110 loaner, soon to be replaced with a new but also diskless 3/60) running OS 4.0 but being served by the OS 3.5 3/60. We have the OS 4.0 system running everything except SunView - which kroaks off immediately and dumps core (at a winclose call maybe? don't remember exactly). Has anyone done this configuration (OS 3.5 serving diskless OS 4.0) before? Does it work "out of the box", or does magic have to be invoked (e.g., we had to conjure up a boot parameter daemon to get the 4.0 system to boot)? For what it's worth, the 3/110 loaner came with a disk shoebox, which we used for a coupla days, before it ate its power supply. OS 4.0 came up happily from the disk. Running the same identical binaries on the same identical disk but with root exported from the diskful 3/60 causes the SunView problem (/usr and friends still on the 3/110's own local disk!). While ideally we would like to upgrade everything to OS 4.0, the 3/75 has some "other" hardware that is currently locked into OS 3.5, which locks the file server into OS 3.5 (as I understand it, the ND service is built into the OS 3.x kernel and is not provided in OS 4.x). If there is any way for a OS 4.x machine to serve a diskless OS 3.5 machine, I would be interested in that as well . . . Many thanks in advance! -RDH
