[comp.sys.sun] PC-NFS incompatibility with SunOS 4?

gfr@cobra.mitre.org (Glenn Roberts) (04/25/89)

We've been experiencing a problem with our PC's that mount their printer
off our Sun 4 over PC NFS. After we recently upgraded this machine from
3.2 to 4.0.1 the PC's can no longer reliably print. When the printer
doesn't work the symptom is that output sent to LPT2: (or whatever
printer is NFS mounted) just goes to the PC's screen and the PC locks up!
This happens when output is copied to LPT2: or when a program opens LPT2:
and writes to it. The command NET PRINT filename LPT2: works fine.

This apparently happens whenever the host specified in our NET USE LPT2:
\\hostname\lp command is running SunOS 4. The workaround is to NET USE
your printer off a system running 3.x (even if THAT system in turn mounts
its printer off a 4.0 system).

Anyone seen this problem? Help would be appreciated, we've only got one
non-4.0 system left to mount printers off of!
