[net.news.group] mod.recipes

hsu@deccra.DEC (Sam Hsu) (11/03/85)

Here is a vote in favor. I'm more interested in recipes than random
discussions. also, is there a net.cooks.wanted? if people could post
recipe requests there, then net.cooks may not be so full of them.

(Incidently, while the use of mod. vs. net. concerns me, I
must concede the vast superiority of mod. content over any
equivalently titled net. group.

DOWN with net.flame.

I don't know who these people are that put themselves in charge of
deciding what are the proper newsgroups (nor do I particularly care,
though it is pretty irksome), but I would like to express to them
my support of establishing a mod.recipes newsgroups.

Cheers,

Steve

Actually, you won't find a single "recipie" on the net, because there aren't
any such beasts. On the other hand, net.cooks often has recipes (and last
week there was a recipe for "mealy" chili posted to net.cooks and net.misc).

*Many* recipes are available in bookstores. However, many books go out of
print and are no longer available in bookstores--but somebody on the net might
have one that has the recipe for eccles cakes like my grandmother made. Also,
sometimes recipes in books are created by the author but never tried, and
some contain some amazing typos (like the edition of _The_Joy_of_Cooking_ which
accidentally put "lbs" instead of "sticks" of butter in a brownie recipe)(and
if such a mistake was posted, at least I'd have recourse to asking if there
wasn't a mistake).

I don't imagine that folks will start submitting their entire library for
inclusion in mod.recipe, :-) so any load created by this group would probably be
small, and it would be a neat way to organize recipe requests and offerings.
I think it's a good idea and I'd read the group.

But let's spell the name correctly.
