> I am also going to try recompiling the X server with cc -O4 (instead of > the default -O2). I have already done this on both Sun3 and Sun4, and the server is somewhat smaller and a fair bit faster. It's been in use for a few weeks among a dozen or so users, and no unusual behaviour has been reported. (Oh yes, I applied the purdue 2.0 patches first). Be warned though: compiling the bitblt modules mfbbitblt and cfbbitblt requires over 30Mb of stack space! You need to do a "limit stack 35m" before it will work. Also, if you don't have 32Mb of real memory, your machine will probably thrash. I tried this on an otherwise idle 8Mb 3/60, and iropt only got 60mins CPU in a 12 hour period. This prevented me from applying -O4 to these modules on a Sun3, as we don't have one that big running SunOS4.0.
