I have read in this news group that this combination ( CDC 1.2 GB ) works well. I have however had a hard time getting mine installed. The problem I have is: My Sun 4/260 crashes with a an eror message of spurious VME interupt at processor level 5 VME level 3, VME vector 0xffffffff this happens when I try to tar one file system to another or when I run suninstall and it's trying to load the usr partition. I can make file systems and look at it with format. My configuration is: 4/260-32 run SunOS 4.0 SCSI tape Xylogics 450/451 with 2 micropolis 256 MB drives Xylogics 753 with CDC Sabre 1.2 GB drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks David Classen dclassen@swift.bcm.tmc.edu (713) 798 3738 Molecular Biology Information Resource

We have 4/280 that prints that message out every 10-15 minutes or so, but it doesn't crash. I always thought it had something to do with having a second ethernet interface, since it's usually followed by the the famous "ie1: spurious interrupt" message. We have a Xylogics 451, a SCSI 1/4" tape, a 32 meg memory card, an ALM-2 and a TAAC board. Field service gave the generic "it's fixed in the next rev" line, but I've heard it could be caused by the VME to Multibus adapter cards used by ie1 and the 451. The rate of the error messages does seem to increase when the network interface is used, such as during a remote dump. We also tried upgrading to the newest rev cpu (rev 14?) with no change. I would assume they would pay more attention to you if it actually crashed your system, instead of just wasting console paper. -e Eric Pearce ARPANET eap@bu-it.bu.edu Boston University Information Technology CSNET eap%bu-it@bu-cs 111 Cummington Street JNET jnet%"ep@buenga" Boston MA 02215 UUCP !harvard!bu-cs!bu-it!eap 617-353-2780 voice 617-353-6260 fax BITNET ep@buenga

NOTE: TO ANYONE INSTALLING A XYLOGICS 753 WHILE RETAINING THEIR 451 CONTROLLER Xylogics had a MAJOR BUG in their firmware!!! I was experiencing THE SAME EXACT error message as Dave did. The solution is to RETURN your board to the company you purchased it from and have them send you the LATEST REV level from Xylogics (date 27-Mar-1989 (?)). After installing the new board, I am running: 4/280 32M memory SCSI tape Xylogics 451 with 1 Hitachi DK815-10 Xylogics 753 with 2 Fujitsu M2372K with no problems (knock on wood . . .).
