$ Does anybody have a toolsome newsreader that runs under Sunview? Please
$ reply by e-mail; I will share responses with anyone who asks.
I have replied by email, but maybe people care to see my quick and
dirty solution:
I just have a simple menu item in my main menu file (.rootmenu).
"Read news" shelltool -Wf 0 217 101 -Wl rn -WL rn rn
This pops up a window in a garrish green with rn started. When I type
'q' at the top level, the window goes away.

[[ I don't know about the original poster, but I would prefer something
that uses an interface closer to that of mailtool. That way I don't have
to remember all those weird one letter "rn" commands. Of course, I still
want alot of the power that "rn" has. Sigh.... --wnl ]]

Tooltool allows you to create windowed interfaces to most any application. The tooltool release package includes a windowed interface to rn, and every person who ever got a copy of tooltool has also tried to write their own. You can get a copy of tooltool from either the sun-spots archives at titan.rice.edu or via anonymous ftp from trantor.harris-atd.com (26.13.0.98) in the /pub/suntools/tooltool directory. The trantor version is guaranteed to be the latest and greatest versrion. Sigh.... --wnl I think the two public domain news readers for Emacs(tool): Gnus and Gnews are quite nifty, i.e. if you use emacs. The latter is rn-like (it took me less than a day to convert), and if you like menus, they can be added in. sandeep -- Sandeep Mehta ...to be or not to bop ? uunet!philabs!bebop!sxm sxm@philabs.philips.com
