We have a Sun3/280 running OS 4.0.1 with Transcript2.0 installed. Periodically we get the daemon waiting for lock on /dev/ps. Various things like restarting the daemon, recycling the printer, etc. doesn't seem to fix it. Any idea what is happening? We don't have lpr sources and that error mesage doesn't seem to be in the OS 3.X sources. thanks rich

We noticed exactly the same symptoms on our print server running 4.0.1. Every now and then, we see a message like "Waiting for lock on /dev/lw". The fix (kludge) is to do a "ps -aux | grep pscomm" and kill off the associated process. We talked with SUN and they said it was a known bug in 4.0.1. Hopefully this will be fixed in the next release. -rc Ran-Chi Huang Wyse Technology VOICE: (408) 433-1000 x1537 3571, N. I used to have the same problem ocassionally with the daemon waiting for a lock on /dev/XXX. I used to just removed the lock file from /var/spool. Since I went to Transcript 2.1, I have not had this problem. Brett Chapman G.E. Medical Systems (414) 548-5156 uunet!{steinmetz,crdgw1}!gemed!chapmanB sun!sunbrew!gemed!chapmanB
