[net.unix-wizards] Unix vs. world

>From an Amdahl paper describing their UTS system (Unix running on
IBM 370s and compatible machines under VM):

...programmers working under CMS are about twice as
productive as programmers working under TSO... in
comparison, using UTS they are three to six times more
	productive than when using TSO...

The dustjacket of the latest operating systems textbook, Peterson and
Silberschatz's "Operating System Concepts", is interesting. A variant
of it is the cover art for the glossy blurb for the book that Addison-
Wesley just sent me. In the background, we have an assortment of
dinosaurs with labels like "OS/360", "SCOPE", and "MULTICS". Somewhat
closer up, we have a wooly [sp?] mammoth labelled "OS/MVS" and another
extinct mammal [whose name I forget] labelled "VMS". Finally, up
front, we have one of those little extinct horses, labelled "CP/M",
and... a hairy bipedal ape, with a smile on its face, labelled "UNIX".
