I hate to beat a dead horse, but I have to ring in with my dislike of the new Sun keyboards. Why is Sun making engineering workstations with an MSDOS keyboard? Here's what 2 high-ups at Sun have to say: *********** From: cre@EBay (Conrad Essen) To: avb@avb, sardina@sunrise.East Subject: Re: keyboards Roy, It is hard to please all people all the time, and w/ respect to keyboards it is IMPOSSIBLE. The corporation made a decision to drop the Sun 3 because of price, quality, and reducing OMAR numbers, plus many other reasons. If a customer absolutely insists on the Sun 3 keyboard, you might ask Specials to see if they can help out. It will cost more I can asure you that. It sounds like the main point users hate is the location of keys, not the design or feel of the type 4 keyboard? Am I correct ? Conrad *********** Another answer, this time from Andreas Bechtolsheim, a Sun founder and VP: ************ From: avb@avb (Andreas Bechtolsheim) To: cre@darnoc, sardina@sunrise.East Subject: Re: keyboards People tend to develop a psychological preference for the feel of whatever keyboard they currently type on. The old (Type3) keyboard is being phased out; people will need to get used to Type4 with the new products. ********** Short and sweet, but not much help. I got those responses from Sun on a mail message I sent to my account rep, Steve Vogel. He passed on my mail and those two responses came with a day. I have a feeling Sun dosen't give a fat one HOW we feel about the new keyboard, it seems we're stuck with it. THIS SUCKS. What can we do? Call or email your Sun account rep (the guy who makes the commissions). Make him hear you out and then make him pass along your feeling to his boss(es). TELL SUN WHAT YOU THINK. If anough of us do this it MAY make a difference. It's at least worth a try. Lawrence A.
