[comp.sys.sun] HP-clients of Sunserver

medfys@uunet.uu.net (Victor Langeveld/Tjeerd Dijkstra) (06/08/89)

We want to boot HP diskless workstations from a Sunserver. The local sun
dealer over here says it's not possible. According to them the HP's should
boot from their own disk but may use the Sunserver after that through NFS.
Is this correct? Does it make any difference whether I use HP-UX or
4.3BSD?

The literature that I got from Mt Xinu about their MORE/bsd 4.3 port to
the HP (from Utah) says that they support "Diskless NFS, for running
diskless HP, Sun and VAX nodes". Sounds like it does what you want. The
HP-UX diskless node support uses an HP proprietary protocol to access root
and swap areas on the server, and requires an HP-UX server.
