Has anyone in the world their received a real SPARCstation 1? We ordered ours a few days after they were announced -- SUN still won't give us a delivery date! The folks in our AI group order a few and I do not know if they have even
been given a ship date yet much less recieved any hardware. I do know
that one that was ordered for the geography department had a `supposed'
ship date of June 19th.

There's a cover page story in the June 19th issue of InfoWorld:
"SparcStation Deliveries Delayed"
According to this article, there were early problems with the Sparc IU
made by LSI Logic Inc. and Gene Banman, director of product marketing for
Sun's entry systems group, said it would be probably 2 months before the
backlog disappears.
This doesn't affect 330's, 370's and 390's which use a different
processor.
We ordered a color and a monochrome 4/60 and a 3/80. We got the 3/80 a
week ago. I called our sales rep and I was told the shipment dates for our
4/60's were June 30th for the color one and August 6 for the monochrome
one. --

I gather that their HP mini got really swamped with some of the stuff that they just implemented, and the Amdahl that got installed isn't fully running yet. However, I haven't been able to get them to boot, and Sun has told me I need a Sun 4c patch tape. You didn't mention that, so have you been successful booting your machines without the patch tape? Mine doesn't get very far; it returns from the boot attempt with the message "file not found". I'm not entirely convinced the wrong software is to blame, but that's what Sun service says. One neat thing is the forth in the rom -- does yours have that, or are we a special case? On ours, if you say n or c after the boot fails, you're talking to (Mitch Bradley's) forth -- at least 100k of it! Anyway, I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have to get my diskless machines working. Thanks in advance. Has any one received SPARC station 1 17" mononchrome version yet? I read different versions of availability of the machines in Sun-Spots-Digest v8n44. Our sales rep says it will be available possibly some time in July. Hari (S.I. Hariharan) Math. Dept. University of Akron, Akron, OH 44325. Email:hari@zippysun.math.uakron.edu Thanks
