We upgraded to SunOS 4.0.3 14 July 89 and since that time syslogd has not logged a single message. I called Sun several times on this and they have yet to respond. Has anyone experienced a similar problem after a 4.0.3 upgrade. Somewhat perplexed... *-[:-( *_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_* Bitnet: jeff@wubios.wustl Jeff Gabel Internet: jeff%wubios@wucs1.wustl.edu Box 8067, Biostatistics uucp: uunet!wucs1!wubios!jeff 660 S. Comment out the define(LOGHOST,1) line that you (probably) added to "/etc/syslog.conf" when you installed 4.0. The 4.0 installation of syslog didn't work without that define, the 4.0.3 version won't work with it. Believe me. It works! The trick is to remove the line: define (LOGHOST, 1) from /etc/syslogd.conf -- yes, the same one you had to put in for 4.0 to solve the infinite loop problem. I don't think this is in the release notes -- I didn't see it. -- Jonathan Corbet National Center for Atmospheric Research, Field Observing Facility corbet@stout.ucar.edu

My experience has been that the define line doesn't matter but having an entry for loghost does (this was pointed out on sun-managers). I still don't get incoming mail logged on my Sun-3 but everything is fine on the Sun-4's. Paul
