We have a Sun 3/260 with SMD disks and the built-in cartridge tape drive. We need to add more disk space -- a > 600 MB drive. It seems that these days SCSI drives can deliver high performance at a much lower cost than SMD drives. I am looking for info on the following: 1) Is there any reason not to go with SCSI ? 2) Good/bad experiences with specific >600 MB SCSI shoeboxes on Suns. Is there anything to watch out for ? Sources for low-cost SCSI drives (academic discounts?). 3) The cartridge drive is supposedly SCSI. Is there any way to connect to that SCSI bus or do we need another SCSI controller. 4) Experiences/tradeoffs of getting the SCSI controller from Sun or a third part (e.g. Ciprico).
