[comp.sys.sun] Comparison between Sun SMD-4 and Xylogic Disk Controller

wang@wpi.wpi.edu (William S. Ang) (08/15/89)

Is there any SunSparc user there that has experience with Sun SMD-4 or
Xylogic Disk Controller. I would like to connect them to a 3.0M bits/s
CDC Disk. I would like to know what is the pros and cons between them.
Problem finding the right cable, etc.

Thanks in advance.

According to what I understand, the SMD-4 from sun only supports 2.4Mb/s
transfers while the XY753 supports 3.0Mb/s. Make sure before connecting to the
disk that they are compatible.

The first SMD-4's supported only 2.4 MB/s, but the SMD-4's shipping now
do support 3.0MB/s. I have one connected to a CDC 9720-1.2GB 3.0MB/s
drive and it does work.
