Does anyone out there know the true deal about the SCSI bus termination on the SPARCStations (1 and 300 series, at least)? Is Sun going to produce an external terminator? Are the machines shipped with an internal bus terminator? Should this be removed when peripherals are added? Thanks. For SparcStation-1, the following is true (to my knowledge): * There are a set of terminators internally on the CPU board. As they are soldered in, removal seems to be contraindicated. * The internal drives are on stub cables, and should *not* be terminated. * All external devices should be unterminated *except* for the last in the chain. * Lunchboxes (Personal Disk Packs (PDP) and Personal Backup Packs (PBP) may or may not come with the small cable external terminator. I can't remember whether we decided to include them (I hope so). * P-boxes (ECD expansion shoebox- disk && tape) comes with the large SCSI cable external terminator.

I don't know about SS's, but our 3/80's come with a document that says that the keyboard box contains an external terminator, and that the machine won't work reliably without it. So far, I've found neither to be true. Anyone want to take credit for that lovely install-me-with-a-crowbar frame buffer?
