hey, these sun-spots really work! I sent a message about an fsck problem and got several replies, all of them correct! thanks very much to those who helped, and apologies to chris@nvprogram.egg.com - I have been trying to reply to your message but the mailer is convinced it can't resolve your address. the answer was that sun had formatted the 2nd 104 mbyte drive but had not done newfs on the partitions, so when i did that the fsck error went away. Thus encouraged, I have another problem to ask about. Some of the groups here have printers that they share between, say, a mac and a sun, or a pc cluster and a sun. they switch between them with a switch box. of course, if the box is not set to the sun, the print won't come out. It seems that people who submit print jobs and don't notice that the switch isn't set to sun (typically because they are logged in to the sun via a terminal server or rlogin, and not in the room with the printer) find that their print jobs disappear after a while. is there a way to prevent the jobs from disappearing, and keep them in the queue until someone notices that the printer switch is set wrong and sets it back? thanks patricia monger monger@mcmaster.ca
