We recently installed Bell Version 7 UNIX on our PDP-11/45. We have a DH-11AD with three dial-up lines (Bell 103 modems). We have been experiencing the following problem. When the system is first booted, a dial-up attempt may or may not establish a connection (i.e., open completed). If it does and the line is humg up, a subsequent dial-up attempt cannot get the modem to even answer the phone for any of the "free" lines. ps and pstat -t, however, show that the lines are in a "waiting for open completion" status. Does anyone have any experience wih this hardware/software configuration? If so, have you experienced a similar problem? Does anyone have any idea what could be causing the problem and what the fix is? Immediate responses would be appreciated as the situation has become critical to the progress of several research efforts.
