Idealogical arguments aside, I wouldn't mind a totally moderated USENET, since the amount of time I spend reading 'noise' is significant, even with rn's kill files and other nice features. Moderation would also open up possibilities for storage of useful files and software related to the newsgroup's purpose. (This is being done for mod.computers.ibm-pc as well as mod.protocols.appletalk) Would a USENET consisting of net.general and mod.everything-else satisfy the anti-censorship crowd as well as everybody else? Net.general would be a like newspaper where you would have to sort through everything to find the topics and articles you want, but this seems to be a reasonable price to pay for the freedom to say anything you want in net.general. - Ralph
