We are contemplating the installation of a cluster of 2 or 3 SparcServers in the 330 to 370 class to provide basic unix service, (as opposed, for example, to high-end research power) for campus users. (More machines could be integrated into the cluster in the future.) Access would be via a combination of serial and network connections, and expected uses are primarily of mail/news/editing and small statistical packages. If you have already done something similar, how many simultaneous users have you found that these machines can comfortably handle without a serious degradation in interactive response? Are there any configurations you would avoid? Please send email to samg@tank.uchicago.edu and I will summarize.
