I've always had trouble scanning the table of contents of the sun-spots digests. Today I realized why: each line is centered. This makes the contents difficult to scan for topics of interest/disinterest. I realize one request can't dictate to the whole list, but if there aren't any counter requests nor good reasons for centering each line, the human factors literature says left justified text is easier to read. I expect if the task isn't reading but scanning, left justified text wins even bigger. Ed's Reply: Okay, I'm pretty neutral on this one, so I'll put it up to a popular opinion survey, send me your opinion one way or the other as to left justification vs. centered titles. If opinion favors left justified, then I'll change the format of the digests (note: this doesn't affect the Usenet comp.sys.sun distribution, just the digest). -bdg.
