[comp.sys.sun] Fujitsu M2249E and Sun 3/160 under SunOS 4.0.3

tmb@relay.eu.net (Thomas Burgey) (02/15/90)

We have an old Sun 3/160C Workstation with 3 disks:

	- sd0,sd1: Fujitsu M2243AS
	- sd2: Fujitsu M2249E

sd0 contains SunOS 3.5 which we want to hold, sd2 should become a SunOS
4.0.3 boot disk. All the disks have worked well under 3.5 .

Now we have installed SunOS 4.0 on sd2 (with sd0b as miniroot partition)
but the disk is unable to boot. We got the error:

scsi: no such controller on SCSI bus

although the disk is O.K.

Inquiry at Sun Microsystems Germany results that the M2249E SCSI Interface
is incompatible with the SunOS 4.0.3 SCSI device driver. Is this right ?
Is there any way to use SunOS 4.0.3 on a M2249E or must we install 4.0.3
on a M2243 and 3.5 on the M2249 (that would be frightening !!!).

Thanks,
Thomas
