There are now a few companies that sell "relatively" inexpensive (~$1500) Fax packages for a Sun, composed of a fax modem and software. With this you can receive Fax, store it, print it, and preview it. You can also generate outgoing Fax from various on line sources (ascii, postscript, etc). All of this varies with the package, and maybe time as they mature. The stopper for us, is the need to be also able to conveniently generate outgoing fax from hardcopy as well. For this you need a scanner. The Sun scanners I've seen are way too expensive (~$2500) to justify as a fax scanner. $4K is just too much to pay to replace a fax machine. Does anyone know of a low cost scanner for a Sun, that would do the job? I see PC solutions starting at $600. I realize that one solution is just to buy a low cost Fax machine, and use it just as a scanner. This seems like a waste. I would hope a $600 standalone scanner would be better than one in a $600 fax machine, and have some other uses.
