Something similar to this may have already been asked. If so, I apologize, and could someone email me a summary. If it hasn't, well here goes. Anyone out there using 8mm units under SunOS on a sparc based Sun system? In particular, Sun 4/60, 4/3xx, 4/490 (all sparc based). The tape unit(s) I am interested in are made by MicroTechnology. We have 2 units that have been hanging off a Vax 8600 running System V. The model we have is their unibus model (interface card for vax to "convert" TMSCP to scsi, and 2 tape transports in a single body unit). I have been told by them that the units are true scsi(from the bulkhead of the vax to the units at least), and that they should just plug into a Sun scsi port - instead of going through a card like they do now. I know that the cable I would need is different from the one I have now. I also know that the scsi ports on the sparc machines are "smaller" than the ones on Suns other machines. MT is checking on the cable (and confirming the units will work on sparc), and my sun contact is also checking on this. In the meantime, any of you running 8mm units off a sparc based Sun? If so, any problems or pitfalls it is helpful to know about? Any experience with MT 8mm units on Suns? Source for the necessary cables(the tape units are conn. by a 50 pin 3 row cable now)? Please email, and I will summarize. Thanks in advance. Calvin Hayden Texas Instruments, Johnson City, Tn. Voice (615)461-2254 UUCP: ...mcnc!rti!tijc02!{root,cgh018}
