From: Howard Alt <alt@aids-unix> As I recall, there was a long discussion of "Should you or should you not bring the system down for dumps?". I would like to know the answer to this question. At the place I used to work, we never brought the system down, and never had a problem. Here, we bring the system down every day for dumps. What are the chances of actually bashing a dump tape or somthing if you dump while the system is up. (we use the dump that comes with 4.1) I realise that dump is slower with the system multi-user, but people are getting work done, and I'm not sure that it is worth the 20 mins if operator time that it saves. Does anyone recall the answer? Thanks in advance, Howard.
