[net.unix-wizards] Novices

rascal@ogcvax.UUCP (06/15/83)

If you have been reading net.unix-wizards lately, you will have noticed
that questions from rookies receive more heat than help. You must also
realize that the net is a great help to new unix users. Clearly, these
points, taken together, beg for the creation of a new group.

Wizards have important things to TALK about, like how to keep 4.1c from
crashing. Novices have important things to ASK, like "What's ditroff?"

Let's create a group for novices!

Why include the perjorative term "novice"? Why not just call it "net.unix"
and let people ask questions about UNIX(tm) there? This egotistical separation
of the "novices" and "wizards" does more to impeed the usefulness and general
understanding of UNIX than anything else.

A more useful idea would be to create a group for all those
articles proposing a unix-novices group, so the rest of us
can unsubscribe...
