Thanks to all who passed along helpful hints and to Sun for fixing the problem I had getting SunOS 4.0 to work with my new Telebit T1000. To recap: I was only able to get about 120 cps throughput on the zs0 tty ports. The solution was yapt (yet another patch tape) v5.5, which sun gave me for free. A special thanks to the gent at Sun tech support who put up with several back-and-forth telephone tag sessions. The tape at first was missing a crucial object-code tar file, but he e-mailed a packed uuencoded file and now I am happy to report that simultaneous zmodem and uucp g-proto xfers at 9600 baud have occurred on a Sun 2/170 without any silo overflows, system reboots, or any other problems. The transfers were carried out on two ports of an MTI-1600. Mind you, nothing else was being done at the time, and the throughput was not quite 960 cps, but it was not too terribly shabby, compared to the previous marks of a dismal 100 cps with lots of FAILED (conversation complete) messages in the logfiles, and there were no silo overflows (and no system crashes from timeout table overflow either!). To summarize: If you have SunOS 4.0, but NOT 4.0.3, get this yapt. P.s. I remember the name of the Gent at Sun tech support, but since I did not ask permission to use his name, I won't. But rest assured, I am writing his boss a really nice letter. Nick Sayer - The Goose Egg public unix - 209-952-5347 (Telebit) quack!mrapple@uop.edu !
