From: Lauren Weinstein <vortex!lauren@lbl-csam> Just in case there is possible interest, I am currently beginning an effort to port my UUCP system over to various IBM-PC operating systems. (The UUCP system to which I refer is the one that I wrote from scratch which is not based in any manner on Unix source code, and which currently supports my "vortex" UUCP site.) I don't have an IBM-PC around here, so someone else's unit will be used for development. The first implementations will probably be for the MSDOS systems, with Coherent later on (I don't currently know anybody locally running Coherent). Given that my UUCP is already completely written and debugged (and has handled many tens of thousands of files for vortex), the actual port to these other systems appears to be comparatively straightforward, though there are a couple of technical issues that have required some careful thought. It appears that, in particular, an IBM-PC-based "slave" UUCP unit (where another system would call the IBM-PC) will be easy to bring up in a hurry. Don't ask me about availability yet. However, I would appreciate hearing from people who have any interest in such a project, so that I can judge the amount of effort (time) I should put into this work. Thanks much. --Lauren-- ARPANET: vortex!lauren@LBL-CSAM UUCP: {decvax, ihnp4, harpo, floyd, ucbvax!lbl-csam}!vortex!lauren
