[net.unix-wizards] DEC UNIX, a correction

aps@decvax.UUCP (06/21/83)

Steve Woods made a few minor errors in his report on DEC supporting
UNIX.

Jan Grisca is part of the DEC Field Service organization (U.S. area
product support planning). He is not in the UNIX Engineering Group nor
is he a product manager for either version of UNIX from DEC (VAX or
PDP-11). Ann Courtright is the PM for the 16 bit UNIX and Bill Doll is
the PM for the 32 bit UNIX.

The best numbers that we have held near to our heart are that there are
between 20% and 25% of the VAXen in the world running UNIX, and at least
90% of those are Berkeley UNIX.

There was a syncronization problem between the PDP-11 software book and
the price list. The next price book should have pricing and such.

The person to call for information about UNIX from DEC is Bernie Toth
who is the marketing manager for the DEC UNIX products. His fone number
is (603) 884-3364.

I was working from my (not very readable) notes and I hearby appoligise for
any errors in my statments. The numbers that I gave were from memory (faulty)
but I believe that I had them correct (remember this was a biased group). I did
however get a rise out of someone at DEC (a real lunker as they say in the
fish biz) which got some real info to the list. Thanks Armondo.
